Mumijo: the mountain resin prized for thousands of years
Among natural remedies there are three I call treasures: mumijo, propolis and bee pollen. I have already written about the bee products; today it is the turn of the most mysterious of the three. Mumijo is a mountain resin that Eastern medicine has prized for thousands of years, from Avicenna to our own day.
WHAT IT IS
Mumijo is gathered in the mountains — a dark resinous mass that has taken up minerals, organic acids and dozens of trace elements. Its exact composition varies from place to place, but the essence is the same: it is a concentrate of mountain nature, which the body takes as nourishment for repair.
What it was valued for
Tradition used mumijo above all where the body needs to knit together, to heal, to rebuild: fractures and injuries, ulcers, wasting, recovery after illness. Eastern physicians called it a "mountain balsam" and a remedy for weakness — in modern language, support for regeneration and metabolism. It is precisely as a restorative that it is interesting: not a stimulant and not a painkiller, but material and a signal for the repair of tissues.
How to tell the real thing
Genuine mumijo dissolves completely in warm water leaving no sediment, softens between the fingers from the warmth of the hand, has a distinctive resinous smell and a slightly bitter taste. Fakes leave sediment, have no smell, and are hard as stone. It is worth buying from trusted suppliers rather than "off a stall at a resort": a remedy's fame always feeds the counterfeiters.
How it is used
The classic approach is small doses: mumijo is a strong remedy, and more does not mean better. Usually it is dissolved in warm water and taken on an empty stomach, in courses with breaks between them. The exact schemes for particular purposes — the doses, the length of the courses, the combinations — I give in my books: that is already the territory of treatment, and precision matters there.
A word of caution
Mumijo is not used in cancer without a doctor's permission, nor in pregnancy or while breastfeeding. As with any active remedy — check with your doctor if you have chronic illnesses or take medication constantly.
